Get to know Rev. Jenna Pulkowski, chaplain at St. Pauls House.
It is such a joy and an honor to be serving all of you wonderful folks here at St. Pauls House. I have had the pleasure of serving in other senior care communities, all faith-based settings, and they set the bar high for what I ought to expect in a care setting. St. Pauls is going to be no exception to those experiences, and I am immensely grateful to be here. Everyone has been exceedingly kind and gracious to me, providing a wonderful warm welcome. I thank God that I am allowed to serve you all, and look forward to getting to know each of you!
Now for you to get to know a little bit about me. I was born in Wisconsin, but I grew up in northern Illinois (Roscoe) with my parents and my younger sister. Having lived so close to Chicago, I remember saying that someday I would live in the city, and in 2010 that dream became a reality when I moved to the Hyde Park neighborhood for seminary. In my final year, I met my now husband, Alex, and we were married in August 2015. It must be true love because he moved up to Fargo, ND to be with me during my first parish call, where I have been serving for the last two years. Alas, our time in Fargo was short-lived, and we answered the Siren song of Chicago and moved back to the city at the beginning of October. Our rural fur baby, Dozer, has now become a big city dog, and is thoroughly enjoying all the smells, bells, and whistles that Chicago has to offer.
I have had some wonderful opportunities to travel and live in many different places, and have a deep love for other cultures and communities. Some of the places I have called home are: Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Montana, Hawaii, North Dakota, and England. Through these different places, I have also been able to travel to France, Italy, Mexico, Israel, and Palestine, and I’m in the midst of planning my next big travel adventure with two of my dearest friends (for summer 2017).
Random facts that I like to share include that my ideal bedtime would be 9 PM, I can read a whole book in one day, I enjoy knitting, spending as much time as I can with my dog, going to see theater with my husband (who is a theater critic for Timeout Chicago), cooking and trying new recipes, I genuinely like cold weather (and do not at all like hot weather), and I am a Green Bay Packers fan (for which I apologize—it’s in my blood, I can’t help it!). My favorite color is blue, I am extremely slow at drinking beverages (hot drinks cool off, cold drinks warm up, and beer goes flat), I have a strange obsession with buying magnets and candles, Target is a dangerous place for my checking account, and I’m pretty sure I could eat Chipotle or fresh sushi every day if I were given the opportunity.
Ok, enough about me. I look forward to meeting each of you, and getting to know some of these random facts about you too. I hope you have a wonderful day, and I’ll see you around!
